Ethical Sourcing of Crystals:

I believe in being transparent about where crystals come from and, equally importantly, about what we cannot know with absolute certainty.

I have worked with crystals for nearly three decades and, during the years I lived overseas, I built personal relationships with suppliers around the world. Some of these are people I have personally met, trusted and continued to buy from for over 20 years.

Wherever possible, I choose suppliers based on those long-standing relationships, their reputation, the information they provide about sourcing, and my own experience of working with them.

However, I am very cautious about using the term “ethically sourced.”

Unless a seller is personally involved in mining a crystal and follows it through every stage until it reaches their hands, it is extremely difficult to guarantee the ethics of every part of its journey.

Crystals can pass through miners, local traders, exporters, importers, wholesalers and retailers before reaching the person who ultimately buys them. Even with a trusted supplier, there may be parts of that supply chain that a small crystal business simply cannot independently verify.

It is also important to understand that crystals marketed as “ethical” are not necessarily from completely separate supply chains. In some cases, small independent sellers, large retailers and online marketplaces may ultimately source material through the same mines, exporters or wholesalers

For that reason, I don’t believe it is responsible for me to simply attach an “ethical” label to a crystal as a marketing claim, particularly when I cannot personally prove every stage of its journey.

What I can promise is honesty and transparency.

I will continue to work with suppliers I know and trust, including relationships built over decades, ask questions about provenance and sourcing wherever possible, and share the information available to me without making guarantees that I cannot substantiate.

For me, responsible crystal retailing isn’t about putting an “ethical” sticker on something and charging more for it.

It’s about long-standing relationships, asking questions, making informed choices, and being truthful about the limitations of what any retailer can genuinely know.

No greenwashing. No misleading claims. Just as much transparency as I can reasonably provide.
